The Amazon Rainforest houses the majority of the country’s exotic plant and animal species. There are millions of species of plants, animals, insects and other organisms that live in this tropical area that are of great value to the people who live there. Thousands of the plants in the Amazon have specific advantages for cultivation. Some can grow in harsh conditions with minimal care; others have high content or quality of proteins, oils, drugs, insecticides or other products of importance. Unfortunately, deforestation is a problem in this region. Conservation and the preservation of wilderness regions are essential to preventing the extinction of many of these amazing animal and plant species.
