Government

The form of government in Brazil is federal presidential representative democratic republic, which in other words means there is a president who is head of state as well as head of govenment. The current president is Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (pictured below). Presidents in Brazil serve for four years, and are able to be re-elected once. Lula da Silva was elected in 2003.

There are 81 members in the Senate of Brazil, each senate member serves a term of eight years. Brazil is divided into 26 states with one federal district. Each one of these states are headed by a governer, and have the ability to make laws, tax, and deal with public security.
